Default Diwan-I-Khas

Diwan-I-khas is also known as Hall of Private audience which is a small hall with nicely placed marble columns with pietra dura decoration. Shahjahan built the structure in 1637 with great devotion.

Default Diwan

On the banks of river Yamuna, rises the crescent-like Agra Fort. Designed and built by Emperor Akbar in 1565 A.D., the fort is surrounded by a 70 foot high wall. It houses the beautiful Pearl Mosque and numerous palaces including the Jahangiri Mahal, Khas Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas, Diwan-i-Am, Machihi Bhawan and Moti Masjid. The fort has four gates and is enclosed by a double battlemented wall of red sand stone.

Dewan-E-Khas is a marvel of engineering. It has a independant cooling mechanism built in it consisting of small channels of water which cool down the entire hall.

It is unfortunate how we are so unaware of architectural and engineering wonders that were created in our country at a time when no modern amenities were available. The Diwan-I-khas is one such example.

The diwan-I-Khas was a place of great importance when it was built. It served as a place where the king held many important meetings and gatherings.
