if you are in some good place like the port blair.. all you need is a scooter to travel all day around. because the island is small and it can be travelled and alos you get everything at one place it self.... and the major local transport is buses indeed.. then for inter island travel you have ferries and their rates are so cheap.. some children , even today travel every day in ferries to attend school in port blair...

In an island like this, buses play an important role. Also the ferries. One cannot expect train services here. Being a small land i think the bus transport will do lot of goods to the people if maintained properly. It will be great to travel in bus seeing the natural beauty.

I have a friend who have been to this place and he said that the best transport is scooter or bike and people who can afford it love to choose them over cars.

Scooters and motorcycles come out to be economical as they guzzle less fuel. Fuel is already very expensive there so it becomes senseless to use car there with consumes a lot of petrol.

Cars need good roads to move on. I don't think as per the economical conditions there it would be possible.

Quite honestly the place is small and you could actually choose to walk from one beach to another through the narrow lanes. If not, there are buses and public vehicles. You could use bikes or cycles too.

If you don't like to walk then bikes are the best option otherwise public transport is also available for this at very cheap rates.
