Default Gavi Ganagadareshwara

Bangalore is also known for its temples.Prominent among these temples is the Gavi Gangad Hareshwara temple. This cave temple was constructed during the reign of Kempegowda, the founder of Bangalore and is dedicated to lord Shiva. Hence the significance of the temple is immense. However what attracts devotees and tourists alike is a unique occurance every year. In the month of January, on the auspicious occasion of Makarsankranti, a ray of sunlight passes through the horns of the bull Nandi which is situated outside the temple and lights up the Gavi Ganagadareshwara idol inside the cave.

Since India is a country of varied religions, there are times when certain events go unnoticed. Similarly the once a year event of natural lighting of a part of the Sri Gavi Gangadareshwara Temple is at times not really known by most.
