Rajkot was the ancient capital and the main city of Saurashtra. The Rajput prince who ruled the State was named Thakur Sahib (Thakor Saheb). The arms (or better, the emblem) of the State ware made of a crescent pointing upwards (Chandra, the Moon), on which was written "Raje koma praja raja" (Gift from the Heaven to the Raja's people), and supporting a running antelope (Chandra's mount), topped with a "katar". The crescent was flanked by two tridents at an angle, and below it the name of the State was placed in a semi-circle pattern. A motto was added in a cartouche below.
